The All About Film Guide

Made with love by

Anna Nelson, Stephanie Rosenthal, Rachel Bond, and Valerie Vaughan

Jumping into the world of film photography for the first time can feel daunting and overwhelming - we are here to help

Our beginnings

In 2020 during the height of COVID lockdown, the four of us were struggling, feeling isolated and craving community. Valerie started a group chat and we quickly bonded over family, creativity, and a deep, shared love for film photography. Through countless conversations filled with late-night questions, lamenting, rejoicing, and mutual encouragement, we realized the lifeline of the community we had built together. Wanting to extend that same support and connection to others, the four of us created a comprehensive film photography guide, designed not just to teach, but to welcome. The hope is to invite more people to the table, to demystify the beauty of shooting film, and to build a warm, inclusive space where creativity and community thrive side by side.

Our inspiration for this guide is deeply rooted in our shared Motherhood experiences. We have found so much joy in photographing our own families on film, and this guide is rich in those moments.
